We are moving our hands and making connections. We Identify shapes and lines in different contexts. We trace our hands to make dinosaurs, turkeys, garlands and wreathes. We mix colors and put together color wheels, we write our names and letters to our friends. We compare and contrast, we graph, and we present our work.

We investigate the materiality of crayons, paints, oils, clays, inks, and graphite. Will oil pastel lay on top of marker? Will crayons mixed with oil pastel create a smooth surface? Which materials bleed into which papers and which materials sit on top? Why? We experiment and record our results in journals each students has bound and decorated. We explore creative 'career paths' through creating graphic and product designs, storyboards and scientific illustrations. We are inspired by illustrators, painters, and animators. So far we have looked at Amber Vittoria, Nadya Mira, Basquiat, Phaan Howng, Elizabeth Catlett, Ruth Asawa and more.
6-8
We talk about creating the illusion of three-dimensional space on two-dimensional surfaces. We fold, sew and weave paper and fabric.
